【食物英文谚语】有关「食物」的常见英文谚语！

有些有关于食物的谚语是很常用猛扰到的。《mmmEnglish》的讲师Emma提出一些日常生活中会使用到的“食物”谚语！

1.(to) put all your eggs in one basket 孤注一掷

意思：把所有的钱都放在一个篮子里，也就是我们常说的“孤注一掷”。 ex.1 While my brother trained to be a professional footballer, he also studied a degree in engineering. Because my dad told him not to put all of his eggs in one basket.（我的哥哥训练成为一个职业足球运动员时，同时他还攻读工程学位。因为我爸爸告诉他不要把所有的鸡蛋放在一个篮子里。）

ex.2 My uncle invested all of his savings into a pany that went bankrupt. I don’t know why he put all of his eggs in one basket.（我叔叔把他的所有储蓄都投入了一家破产的公司。我不知道为什么他把所有的鸡蛋放在一个篮子里。）

2.(to) be in a pickle/(to) be in a bit of pickle

意思：此人陷入了困境。 ex.1 We’re in a pickle… We’ve just locked the keys in the car.（我们陷入困境了…我们把钥匙锁在车里。） ex2. I promised to pick up my sister from the airport, but I’m still at work and I can’t leave yet! I’m in a bit of a pickle, can you help?（我答应从机场接我的姐姐，但我还在工作，还不能离开！你能绝知并帮助我吗？）

3.(to) bite off more than (one) can chew

意思：不自量力、力不从心。 ex1.He’s been working back late every night this week tying to finish the project. I think he’s bitten off more than he can chew.（他这周晚上都在工作，为了完成这个项目。我想他力不从心。）

ex2. I’m so sorry! I haven’t got time to meet you for lunch today. I’m anising my sister’s surprise party, and I’ve bitten off more than I can chew! There’s so much to do!（我很抱歉！我今天没有时间见你并迹吃午饭。我计画了我姐姐的惊喜聚会，力不从心！有这么多的事情要做！）

4.(to) butter someone up

意思：巴结某人、谄媚 ex1. I know that Paul has a spare ticket to the concert. Perhaps if we butter him up, he might offer it to us!（我知道保罗有一张音乐会的票。如果我们巴结他，他也许会提供给我们！）

ex2. He’ll have to butter his boss up if he wants to take extra leave at Christmas.（如果他想在圣诞节额外休假，他就必须巴结他的老板。）

5.in the nutshell

意思：简而言之、一言以蔽之 ex1. Well… It’s a plicated story, but in a nutshell, it’s about three astronauts who disappear for about thirty years before returning to earth with no memory of anything that had happened!（嗯…这是一个复杂的故事，但简而言之，这是关于三个太空人，消失了大约三十年后，回到地球，却没有任何记忆！）

ex2. I don’t want to explain their whole history, but in a nutshell, they just wanted different things out of life.（我不想解释他们的整个故事，但简而言之，他们只是想要的生活不同。）
